Na Wulg Wulg is a non‑profit early childhood education and care service that has long supported families across the Katherine community. Although the centre is located within the Kalano community, it is not owned or operated by the Kalano Community Association; it is an entirely separate organisation.
The service is run by an incredible group of women—many of whom have been there for years. I’ve met other local mums who now send their children there and who themselves attended as kids, cared for by some of the very same staff who are still there today. That continuity, stability, and deep community connection is something truly special.
The recent floods have had a devastating impact on the centre. Their OSHC demountable took on roughly a metre of water and will need to be discontinued entirely. Inside the main building, around 20 cm of water came through—while that may not sound like much, it has caused significant damage to furniture, learning resources, and essential equipment, all of which will need replacing.
Na Wulg Wulg serves children from right across Katherine, from all backgrounds and circumstances. For many of these kids, the centre is a sanctuary—a place where they feel safe, loved, and connected. My own son affectionately calls his educators “his aunties,” which speaks to the sense of extended family that the staff create every day.
I am speaking out as a mum to the community- as we have seen how amazing you mob have been in responding to others in need and Na Wulg Wulg needs our help- plus I need my 3 year old back in child care as he is driving me insane!

My relationship to Na Wulg Wulg
I am a local Katherine mum whose child attends Na Wulg Wulg. Like many families in the community, our children are cared for by the incredible educators at the centre, many of whom have supported generations of local families. I am organising this fundraiser independently as a parent and community member who wants to help the centre recover after the recent floods.
How the funds will be used
All funds raised will go toward helping Na Wulg Wulg recover from the flood damage. This includes replacing furniture, learning materials, children’s resources, and equipment that were damaged when floodwaters entered the building, as well as supporting clean-up and recovery efforts so the service can reopen safely for children and families.
How the funds will be delivered
Funds raised will be transferred to Na Wulg Wulg or used to purchase essential items needed for the centre’s recovery in consultation with the service management to ensure the money is used where it is needed most
