Saying goodbye too soon - Laura Ina Puett

Laura was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 38 in 2019. They were able to remove the mass from her breast but shortly after we found that it had already metastasized to her brain and spinal cord. Due to this, Laura has had to undergo several chemo treatments, radiation, and two brain surgeries to remove three tumors on her brain. As of August 2023 her latest MRI showed 7 new tumors on her brain, most of which are inoperable. She was able to have a surgery to implant a reservoir in her brain to deliver chemo directly to the tumors. However, on 10/16/2023 she was hospitalized due to a tear in her stomach lining and was not able to utilize the reservoir to deliver the chemo to the tumors. During the stomach surgery the doctors took her off ALL of her steroids in order for the stomach to heal. Within that one week time span without steroids, the tumors rapidly grew and brain swelling and edema became life threatening. She now has so much swelling on her brain that her latest prognosis was 1 to 2 weeks left of life. The doctors did give us an option for Laura to undergo shunt surgery which would drain the fluid from her brain to her chest, only allowing her another month to live. We decided as a family not to put her through another invasive surgery that would not increase her quality of life but only prolong her suffering. As of now, Laura has been in hospice for one week and the doctors there have told us that she has only a day or two left.

She has been unresponsive for several days as her time here with us is coming to an end. Laura will be leaving behind two children, Paige (24) and Kamron (18). Unfortunately Laura did not have anything set up to cover her funeral costs. We are asking for any donations to help with these costs to lighten the financial load that is now left to her sisters and children. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
