We are in desperate need of a car

As many of you know, our car died a few months back. Since then, it’s been a struggle to get around Austin. There is a bus system, but it isn’t the best and even though Central Austin isn’t that big, it takes at least an hour to get anywhere. I have to take 3 busses to work and 3 busses back during the week. To get to my 2nd job on the weeks, I’ve got to take two busses each way. The bus system is also not reliable in terms of when the busses will arrive. Although I only live about 3 miles away from my house from either job, it can take me 90 minutes to get home during the week. I also don’t feel safe coming home from the 2nd job at 10:30pm waiting for busses. I requested to work earlier but that means missing out on shifts because I’m limiting myself to certain times. Also, Eric isn’t up to taking the bus currently as he’s still having trouble with walking and stamina, so we have to take a Lyft back and forth to appointments or anywhere he needs to go. Lyfts can run anywhere from $10-$30 each way.

I am losing money with my 2nd job because, without a car, I cannot work during the week. It’s just too difficult and takes too long to get all the way across town during rush hour to get to the 2nd job. I cannot save up any money to buy a car because I cannot work enough hours because I don’t have a car. I’m stuck in a vicious circle.

The other thing is we absolutely need to move out of our apartment when our lease is up at the end of July. After the home invasion at Christmas, the kiddo feels unsafe around the complex. Also, our rent is so high for the crappy apartment we live in, we need to find somewhere cheaper/safer. We cannot move unless I can work more hours at my 2nd job.

We desperately need a car. We don’t need a new one, we just need something reliable. I know this is probably the worst time to be asking for money, what with :::motions arms around::: all that’s happening in our country. So many people have been so kind to us over the years, we appreciate you so much. Without a car, we’re just treading water. With a car, we’ll be able to move forward. Anything at all helps. If you cannot give, we totally understand, even sharing this post would be awesome.
