This is Sam Jankowski. As of today, Ocotber 20th, 2016 he has been in the hospital for 34 days straight. He is a diabetic, an amputee and through his peritoneal dialysis catheter contrated a massive fungal infection in his peritoneal cavity. This sent his body into septic shock and required the removal of a portion of his large intestine, resulting in the need for an ileostomy.
My name is Kelle Milliken. I have known Sam for 13 years, and we have a son together. He is nine years old and has special needs. His name is Avery.
I have had to take an unpaid leve of absence from work to be there to care for Sam. His absence from the home has also made it necessary for me to hire a babysitter to look after Avery during the times that Sam normally did, after school.
Our greatest need is a scooter or motorized wheelcahir for Sam once he is able to leave the hospital. His left leg has been amputated below the knee, and he was scheduled to have the right one done as well when this infection set in. This will allow him to be able to resume some sort of normal mobility while he heals, and be able to resume some of his duties where Avery's care is concerned.
We will also have to modify our vehicle to transport the scooter and for Sam to be able to drive the car once the second amputation is complete. This will invlolve purchasing and installing hand controls for Sam.
Any donations will be put to good use. Insurance will cover only a small portion of these costs. We are looking for other resources as well.
Thank you for your consideration in helping our family.
