New Instrument Needed: for Student Bassist and His Family
Donazione protetta
Hello! My name is Samuel Moon. I am a student double bassist based in Atlanta, Georgia. I am trying to raise funds for all of my bass-related endeavors. All of my musical and educational expenses come from my father’s single income, and my mother has been disabled with a brain injury since 2010 and has been unable to work. You can read more about my mother’s accident here: https://patch.com/georgia/northeastcobb/victoria-moon-a-story-of-courage-and-recovery
I have recently been accepted to the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University, a highly selective conservatory-level program that offers full scholarships to just 27 string players. I will be pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance (with Business Electives), studying under ASO member Daniel Tosky, with additional instruction from visiting faculty Hal Robinson and Tim Cobb (Curtis and Juilliard teachers).
This fundraiser will help me with room and board expenses at McDuffie, private lessons with my teacher when I come home from school, and most of all, a new bass and accessories. I currently use a bass with an extension loaned to me by my school, but when I graduate, I will be unable to take it with me. A new bass would help me tremendously, and allow me to completely maximize my playing.
Along with my previous playing in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and All-State events, I actively participate in the Marietta Pops Orchestra and play in the First Orchestra at First Baptist Church Marietta. I also participated in the World Youth Symphony Orchestra summer of 2024 at Interlochen Arts Camp on a full merit scholarship. I study with Gloria Allgood when I’m at home, Associate Principal Bass of the Atlanta Symphony.
I hope my story has inspired you to help me and my family. I appreciate any donation at all, and I hope you will support me. ◡̈
