Samantha & Daniel's IVF Journey

Donation protected

[ABOUT US]

Hello everyone! We are Daniel and Samantha Crews. We met on Tinder (of all places) in 2016. We had our first date at Red Lobster in September of that year. In 2017, Daniel proposed while on a beach trip with his parents at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach, SC. We were then married in December of 2017 in Reidsville, NC. About a year after we got married, we decided we wanted to start a family. We had no idea of the journey we were about to go on.

[HOW WE GOT HERE]

After about six months of trying, we requested a referral to a fertility specialist. We started with the fertility clinic in the summer of 2019. Through many ultrasounds, bloodwork, and other tests, we were able to pinpoint our issues. As a result, we were told we had a very low chance of conceiving on our own. We have tried many medications, supplements, and other lifestyle changes to increase our chances. We then proceeded with trying two IUIs which were unsuccessful. Our fertility specialist has now told us that IVF will be our best chance to conceive.

[WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT]

We have decided to be open about our journey at this point. Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples (and some research is starting to show more). It needs to be talked about because it can be such a lonely path to go down. While asking for help isn't where we want to be, we also realize it takes a village to raise a child. For us, it may take that village to help us have a child. We believe we have a great village and are humbling ourselves to ask for help. IVF is very expensive, and we do not have fertility coverage with our insurance. We do not yet know the exact cost, but we expect to spend anywhere from $20,000 to $25,000 just for one round.

This quote from Meg Cabot really sums up why we have decided to share our story. We know that this is a difficult journey in many ways, and we know that we have an amazing support system. By helping us along this journey, you are acknowledging that you see us in this hole and want to help. You're acknowledging that we do not have to do this alone.

[WHERE THE MONEY GOES]

There are many parts to the IVF process and many decisions that will have to be made along the way. All parts of the process have to be paid for upfront before we can start.

Here are just some of the things the funds will help pay for:

  • Medications for stimulation and after transfer
  • Egg retrieval surgery
  • Fertilization and embryo testing
  • Cryopreservation
  • Frozen embryo transfer

If you'd like to know more about the steps, you can watch this video (which is a very quick, generic overview).

[HOW YOU CAN HELP US]

Prayer

First and most importantly, we ask that you pray for us. Pray we are making the right decisions as we go along in the process. Pray that we are able to continue to strengthen our marriage through this difficult process. Pray that we will get our miracle.
