My name is Rume and I’m a 27 year old who just finished her masters in law and technology, looking forward to entering the next chapter of my life. Unfortunately after securing my work permit, I became extremely sick and eventually had to go the ER where I was diagnosed with a chronic neurological condition. Health insurance for immigrants in Ontario is dependent on having a full time job, and I couldn’t work at all due to the severity of my illness. I’ve had to pay for all my medical bills out of pocket.

Since getting diagnosed by a neurologist, I was placed on medication that initially helped my symptoms but after less than a month, began to give me horrendous side effects that affected both my cognitive function and heart. This has kept me in the ER and hospital for days at a time and has now warranted me to have a cardiovascular consult. So far I’ve spent well over $5000 on medical bills and still owe several thousands of dollars. All while being unable to work as this condition is physically crippling to the body.

I’m also still not at the end of my treatments and will have to do several follow up appointments with different specialists and doctors over the next few months, which will also cost thousands of dollars.

I am asking for help with my medical bills, past and future, as well as money for rent and upkeep while I am still unemployed to help with my transition into work again once I am further along in my treatment process and physical able to work again.

Anyone who knows me knows how hard I work, I have supported myself for years with no help and even paid for my masters by myself. But now I truly have no other choice. No amount is too small, I’ll truly be grateful for anything given. Thank you so much for your assistance ❤️
