For eleven years I have watched 5th Squad bring a community together to do something simple and powerful: carry a load, share a smile, and show up for those who need us most. Ruck for Rugrats is more than a tradition. It is how Veterans, military families, businesses, and neighbors turn service into tangible care for kids at Children’s of Mississippi Hospital and ongoing support for our veteran brothers and sisters. Seeing the pile of toys grow and knowing those gifts mean a moment of joy for a child has stayed with me every step of the way.

My commitment to this cause grew from the values I learned in uniform and the compassion I saw from fellow 5th Squad volunteers. The $250 Challenge reminded me that every mile, every dollar, and every donated toy multiplies into hope. Money raised helps fund life-sustaining support, case management, and outreach for Veterans in crisis. Toys donated through Ruck for Rugrats make hospital stays a little brighter for children and their families.

When I ruck, I carry memories of service and a promise to give back. When I fundraise, I carry the belief that a community can heal together. Joining this effort means standing with Veterans who sacrificed for us and bringing light to kids who need it most. This work continues long after the event day because the need continues, and so does our commitment.
