My name is Ed Williams, (aka, Zzyzx) and I usually keep my personal stuff off social media and rarely post anything about what’s troubling me or about the causes I support but….today is a very different day!

I’m reaching out to everyone for a little help with my brother and his wife who are going through some very tough times. They are both in separate hospitals, 50 miles apart, and experiencing mounting financial issues. Here's what's been happening to them since the end of June 2025.
Some of you know my brother Ronnie Williams, a 20-year Army Veteran who has been in a VA hospital near San Francisco, CA since June 30th of this year. This is a result of a serious infection from a rod that remains in his right leg after an accidental gunshot wound that nearly cost him his leg 15 years ago. It took 3 years for him to recover enough for the doctors released him to go back to work. Then, just six months after being released the unthinkable happened. His left ankle was shattered in a work-related accident, which is now permanently fused. He had to walk with canes and crutches ever since but never gave up. Even with all that happened to him, he went back to work for 7 more years and would have continued, but it became to difficult for him to walk and do his job safely.
He remains in the VA hospital (into his 5th month now), and during a routine MRI four weeks ago, the VA doctors discovered a spot on his right kidney, and a biopsy revealed it was cancerous so on October 30th, surgeons removed his kidney.
That same day, while my brother was in surgery, a neighbor of theirs found his wife Christine lying on the living room floor of their home unconscious and unresponsive. She is Type-1 diabetic, but it’s unsure if that’s what caused her collapse. EMTs rushed her to a local hospital where she coded twice over a three-day period, once shortly after having four heart stents inserted. After that procedure, she was unable to come out of the effects of anesthesia and as of today, remains in ICU, semi-conscious and on a ventilator full time.
The doctors are telling my brother the prognosis for her making a substantial recovery or ever having a quality life moving forward does not look promising but, it’s all a guess right now. It seems there may only be a couple options moving forward, one is placing his wife in a long-term care facility. My brother and family are discussing things with the doctors to determine what the right choice for her is.
With all this said I know we are all struggling some right now but, if you can help them in any way I think you.

I have set up this GoFundMe account to try and help them with some of their current and future expenses.
