Rex Yapi's Reforestation Project

Donation protected

Papua New Guinea is an eastern component of New Guinea island, which is the second largest island in the world.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) possesses one of the planet's largest remaining tropical rainforests. At least seventy-five percent of its original forest cover is still standing, occupying vast, biologically rich tracts over 100,000 square miles in all.

Currently, logging concessions are mushrooming at an alarming rate of 1000 native trees and plants destroyed per day in the virgin rainforests of PNG.

Rex Yapi, a cryptozoological researcher for many years, has witnessed the above while on his many jungle expeditions for cryptids in PNG.

Rex has been campaigning aggressively for sixteen years to stop logging, mining and other activities harmful to the natural environment.

In the fall of 2022, Rex decided to implement an initiative to replant  huge deforested areas in his locality, a village called Kumiane in the Pangia district of the Southern Highlands province of PNG. He started to replant an area 10 hectares in size with locally sourced  native trees.

This is a pilot reforestation project and is called the "Kumiane Reforestation Project". Later he will gradually replant a larger total of 90 hectares of land to reach a 100 hectare mark.

These are customary lands, legally owned by Rex Yapi according to PNG  land ownership laws.

Rex self-funds the entire project without PNG government or any other globally renowned organizational support. He acts locally without recognition by any stakeholder to save the planet.

This is a volunteer effort purposely undertaken to teach and show the indigenous tribal communities in his area how to take ownership and foster reforestation culture in PNG.

His government makes many intricate policies that could impact things but practically there is no one at the ground level to implement the  policies.

And so Rex Yapi is one of the first citizens implementing the government's conservation policies. He intends to spread the native tree planting culture all across Papua New Guinea.

Finally, Kumiane Reforestation Project provides employment to Rex's tribal people, conserves the  environment, and encourages local citizens to plant trees and stop harmful acts affecting the environment.

Rex has a vision to have tropical rainforest cover the nominated 100 hectares by 2050. Updates on the project will be communicated here in this GoFundMe campaign and by videos via a YouTube channel  called "Rex Yapi - Crypto Media".

Rex Yapi welcomes support from anyone globally towards this worthy cause.

Regards.

==========

A message from Dan Walck, the creator of this GoFundMe campaign... Rex is not able to create it from his location in PNG. He and I first met recently online in various cryptozoolocal forums. I was born in Papua New Guinea and lived there for the first twelve years of his life. I love the country, it's inhabitants and culture, as well as its large diversity of animal and plant life. Rex and I have common interests when it comes to things in nature and I am honored to help him in any way I can. Please consider donating to this worthy cause.

Thank you and God bless.
