This week, recent S.M.U. Graduates Julian Harris and Madi Duren sadly passed away due to a car accident in Dallas, Texas. Julian was loved by everyone he met and brought the world unimaginable happiness.

Julian Harris was one of the most driven and intelligent souls anyone could know. He spent every waking moment pursuing his goal of becoming a better writer, actor, director, and friend. He gave stunning performances throughout his time at S.M.U., and everyone was in awe of his talent and work ethic. He appeared in countless mainstage and student productions. Students, faculty, and fans would come running to shows after hearing, "Julian's in this one." He also spent his free time writing avant-garde and mind-bending plays that spoke deeply about the human experience. Everything he touched turned to gold; he was the prime example of the artist everyone wants to be. After graduation, he graced many Dallas-Fort Worth stages, including The Core Theatre, Hip Pocket Theatre, Richardson Theatre Center, and Kitchen Dog Theater.

Most will remember him as a great artist, but everyone will remember him as a wonderful friend. No matter how exhausted he was or how much he had on his plate, he was there for you at a moment's notice. He consistently put others' needs before his own and always wanted those around him to shine as brightly as he did. If you were hungry, he brought food; if you were sad, he brought comfort; and to all, he brought joy and love. He was an expert in showing love, and loved no one more than Madi.

Julian and Madi’s relationship was something out of a fairy tale. They were always looking at each other with large doe eyes. They consistently pushed each other to be the best version of themselves, which brought out the beauty in them and in everyone they met. Words cannot describe what they had in their friends, family, and the entire Dallas Community. They will be forever missed and loved.
