Rally for Randy's Transplant Journey
Donazione protetta
Randy Holmes is a loving friend, boyfriend, and father who is desperately in need of a bowel and liver transplant.
I am writing this for him because the truth is that Randy is the type of person who doesn't really like to ask for help. He's the type of person who doesn't always see himself the way we see him - as the awesome friend we don't want to lose. I am writing to ask you to help us help our friend - because he needs your help, and if you knew him you would know he deserves it.
After 32 major surgeries requiring sections of his bowel to be removed, he has been left with only 100 cm of small bowel left.
This has made it impossible for him to absorb the calories and nutrients necessary to survive without the use of "TPN,' or total parenteral nutrition which bypasses the gastrointestinal tract. Unfortunately, the side effects of TPN have resulted in cirrhosis of the liver; the very medication he needs to stay alive is actually slowly killing him.
The only hospital on the west coast capable of a liver and bowel transplant that Randy needs is UCLA Ronald Reagan. For Randy, that would mean travelling from Modesto, CA down to Los Angeles one or more times a month in order to make the medical appointments necessary for the procedure. He had been in the process of attending these appointments at Stanford up until recently when they discontinued offering the transplant at their hospital.
He has been working hard to stay healthy, to keep in good spirits, follow all the doctors' instructions and to make every effort to make his appointments. No expense was spared, or effort overlooked. He took Ubers, found rides, took public transportation when possible.
With a limited income of Randy's SSI and his partner's part time job, they could barely make ends meet and make his appointments.
Now, they are in need of a vehicle that is dependable enough to get back and forth to Los Angeles in order for Randy to get his transplants and live.
Anything will help!
If you can offer a vehicle, as well, please contact us.
We are willing to keep working hard, keep fighting, to keep doing whatever is necessary to get these procedures done. Any amount of monies leftover after acquiring a vehicle will be used for gas, insurance, lodging, food and living expenses.
We are also extremely interested in connecting with people located in southern California that may have solutions for temporary lodging/housing as Randy will need aftercare after his procedures.
Thank you so much for the time you have taken to read this. If you can do nothing else - please pray for Randy and for his family.
Sometimes, that's all we can do.
With gratitude and respect,
Friends of Randy
