For anyone who has met Clancy McIntire, you’ve likely smiled, laughed, and rolled your eyes at one of his cheesy remarks. Everyone seems to have a story to tell about him. As he is being transferred for further care, his family is praying for that quick wit and vibrant personality to return.

On July 26, 2025, Clancy suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle accident while stationed with the United States Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Clancy serves as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Third Class. He was initially treated in the intensive care unit at Centro Médico in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and will soon be transferred to a trauma center in Tampa, Florida, that specializes in treating traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

The accident occurred when a car pulled into his path while he was riding his motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet at the time, which likely saved his life.

In the accident, Clancy sustained three fractures—temporal bone, orbital, and maxillary—along with a six-inch laceration across his forehead requiring 17 stitches. He experienced brain swelling, which has since subsided. Initially intubated, he underwent a tracheostomy on August 5 to assist with breathing. Clancy has remained sedated since the accident.

Having had personal experience with a family member facing a TBI, I know that recovery can be a lengthy and challenging journey—one no family should have to face alone. As the future remains uncertain, the family’s priority is to be by his side to support him through every step.
