Save Reyna's Son

Our Dear Friends and Family,

Reyna Robles has been a cherished family friend of ours for more than 15 years. She babysat all of our children since they were very little. She's been there to celebrate their many milestones and successes and also to lament their not so great moments and failures. She's a part of our family.

This week, while Reyna was at work, her son Jorge was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle. The driver of the car that struck him fled the scene and will most likely never be identified. Jorge suffered serious internal injuries including a lacerated spleen. He's hospitalized in Tijuana and is scheduled to go into surgery tomorrow to attempt to repair the damage. Making matters even more tragic, the doctor's examination and blood tests revealed that Jorge also has leukemia. Clearly Jorge has a long road ahead, both in his intensive care and his battle with leukemia.

With the way things work in Mexico, Reyna will have to pay for the surgery and follow-up care out of her own pocket. They just don't have the kind of safety net in Mexico that we have here in the US for those living in poverty. She is of very meager means and has no way to pay for this and for that reason I am trying to raise funds to help her out of this devastating situation.

Although we can't predict exactly what the procedures or treatments will ultimately cost, we would like to provide Reyna's family with at least $5,000 to help with expenses including the surgery, hospitalization, prescriptions, lost wages, and follow-up care.

We are so fortunate to live in a country where we have options not afforded to our friends south of the border. If you are able to contribute to this cause we will be profoundly grateful. Some of you have met Reyna, but many of you have not. She is a wonderful lady that goes out of her way to help others, but now she is the one in need.

Thanks so much for your considerations and please keep Reyna, Jorge, and the rest of their family in your prayers.

With Love,

Jeff & Yvette King
