Puerto Rico Earthquake relief in East Harlem NYC
As many of you know, Puerto Rico has been hit by the worst earthquakes our island has seen since 1918 . More than 1,200 earthquakes over the last two weeks . The last few weeks of damage and displacement has been devastating. Especially for an island still struggling to recover from Hurricane Maria. As the Trump administration illegally withholds funding for Hurricane Maria recovery , we are joining with our neighbors to step up for Puerto Rico.
Our fundraiser will run Thursday 1/16 from 6pm-2am at Teddy's F&B in East Harlem (256 E112th street)
Half of the bar/food $$$ and all of our raffle & auction $$$ goes to PR. All online donations and a portion of bar $$$ will go to Coordinadora Paz Para La Mujer Inc. Cash donations will go to the powerful earthquake relief efforts of Brigada Solidaria del Oeste.
Coordinadora Paz Para La Mujer Inc : A coalition of organizations and individuals who work for the eradication of violence against women in any of its manifestations. Post Earthquake they have been leading grassroots recovery efforts in the south of the island and that is where our funds will be directed. Efforts have included but are not limited to food / supply delivery and installation of solar panels for families left without power.
Brigada Solidaria del Oeste : A coalition of organizations and individuals committed to the long term rebuilding of Puerto Rico. They are currently in the most impacted areas doing as they did Post Hurricane Maria; coordinating food, supplies, medical clinics and a variety of other long term relief efforts for the south of Puerto Rico.
If Maria taught us anything, it's that we take care of our own. For every story about the destruction and displacement in Puerto Rico there are stories of community stepping up. Lets keep that up this week.
