Happy April - World Autism Month!

Hopesetters Autism Center (HAC) in Ghana (www.hopesettersautismcenter.org) is one of only two (2) institutions in Ghana that provide respite care, training and support for kids with autism. Inspired by real life stories of abandonment, abuse, banishment by belief of evil spirit possession and poisoning among other horrific acts caused by sheer lack of awareness and understanding, HAC has grown from humble beginnings into a driving force in the demystification of autism and its challenges, as well as providing a safe haven and developmentally appropriate education for kids and young adults with autism. The center currently supports over 100 students on the Autism Spectrum aged between 3 and 25, with approximately 20 students in residence. The Center currently operates from a rented 4 bedroom bungalow in the city of Tema, Ghana with adjoining temporary structures, which have been quite a challenge with the numbers about to outgrow capacity. HAC has been able to secure land to build an ultra modern center in the city of Prampram, Ghana and is need of financial support for this important project. The ultra modern center will enable a safer and more secure haven and support, accommodate many more children and young adults, provide higher quality care, and significantly advance training and advocacy initiatives.

My family and I are therefore targeting US$100,000 in fundraising cash to help build the proposed center, while also promoting greater awareness towards efforts to help children and young adults on the autism spectrum in Ghana.
