My cousin Tracy Dickens, her husband Shane and their 1yr old son, Cruz welcomed a beautiful baby girl on March 17, 2019. Piper’s birth was supposed to be the best day ever, but the feelings of joy quickly turned to fear and stress when it was discovered that Piper was born with the cord wrapped around her neck and suffering from oxygen deprivation. 24 hours later mom discovered seizures which eventually led to a diagnoses of a traumatic brain injury sustained during birth (HIE). In addition, they were made aware of a congenital heart defect that would require Open Heart Surgery. That surgery will be happening in a couple of days. Piper spent the first few weeks of her precious life in the nicu and was eventually sent home on a feeding tube as a result of her brain injury. All of this has added up to a lot of time away from work, lost income, a lot of adjustments, a lot of dr visits as well as in home nursing care for Piper. The Dickens are a beautiful family that tried for years to have their family and we all just want to help them in every way we can. We are reaching out and asking for help to take some of the financial stress away from them so they can focus on Piper’s upcoming surgery and getting her all the care she may need in the coming weeks, months, or years.
