Prayer Garden with Memorial

Hello, my name Quincy V, and I am a 17-year-old senior at Elmont Memorial High School. I have been a scout since the age of 6 and am now a Life Scout. I am currently working towards achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, and I am seeking your help to complete my Eagle Scout project. To achieve Eagle rank, I must plan, organize, and lead a service project to benefit my community, I have chosen my church family Destiny Cathedral in Hempstead, NY.

For my Eagle Scout Project, I have chosen to design and create a Prayer Garden with a Memorial to Military Veterans and those who have succumbed to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This Prayer Garden will be housed at Destiny Cathedral Church located at 536 South Franklin St., Hempstead, NY 11550. The prayer garden will serve as a beacon of hope but also a place of remembrance and solitude for those we honor and hold dear in our hearts. as a peaceful space for others to be able to pray and come together to reflect.

This project will not only help me to fulfill the requirements for Eagle Scout, but it will also benefit the church family and community in many ways, with a memorial to those who have died of COVID, There aren’t many places where you can go to honor those who have died from COVID which has heavily impacted Black & Brown communities, and we always want to give honor to our Veterans while last but not least our Higher Power.

The creation of this prayer garden requires numerous resources; including large amounts of mulch, drought-tolerant plants, pebble rocks, stepping stones, and more. These resources come at a cost, and that’s where your assistance would be most helpful. The overall cost estimation after planning, budgeting, and shopping will be approximately $2,000. Any remaining donations will be given to Destiny Cathedral to help with any future projects.
