POP PLASTIC NEEDS A SHREDDER FOR LOCAL PLASTIC!

Plastic On Purpose (POP Plastic for short) is a Staunton, VA based business that Refabricates local discarded plastic into usable material to construct their furniture and Interior designs, which focus on the education of circular economy. 

In 2019 Staunton, VA stopped their plastic recycling program. Since then POP Plastic founder, Scott Tiernan, has been researching, interviewing, and prototyping a potential solution. 

Less than one month ago (Feb 2021) POP Plastic launched the collection system at Refill Renew, a partnering business in downtown Staunton, VA. By using a 5'x4'x3' open-top cage, people were able to drop off there clean and de-labeled #2 & #5 plastics and then shop at a great zero-waste store...we had no idea how it was going to go.

— Week one, about 30+ bottles. (awesome the community is responding)
— Week two, the cage is full. (WOW, amazing!)
— Week three, The cage is full and there is about twice as much overflow as there is in the cage and I need to make two truckloads to transfer it! (THIS IS OVERWHELMINGLY EXCITING!)

Up until now POP Plastic founder, Scott Tiernan has been cutting this plastic by himself on a Band Saw. This is no longer sustainable. We are about 3-5 months ahead of plan, but have no means of slowing down! SO WE NEED TO BUY A PLASTIC SHREDDER NOW!

The more plastic we collect means the more plastic is saved from polluting our land, air and water. This also means we can Refabricate more to provide our beautifully designed goods (chairs, tables, bowls, planters etc...) to our community. 

Please help us in this endeavor as we make our community and economy more sustainable and circular! EVERY DOLLAR HELPS!

If we raise above the goal, the overflow will go into better machinery to process the plastic (Oven, Filtration, Molds)
