Writing this is not easy. Sheabutter Cottage is at a critical point and for the first time in many years, I need to ask for help.
I have spent decades building an ethical business in fair trade, craftsmanship and dignity for farmers in Ghana and beyond.
Through Sheabutter Cottage and our partnership with the Jilima Co-op, I have always focused on creating opportunities for others. Together, we have built a relationship based on trust, fairness and a shared commitment to supporting women farmers and their families.
Today, the reality of rising costs and the challenges facing independent businesses has brought us to an incredibly difficult moment.
Sheabutter Cottage is more than a business. It represents a connection between makers and customers, between Ghana and the UK, and between ethical values and everyday choices.
Sheabutter Cottage was created from a commitment to ethical sourcing and community empowerment. By working directly with the dynamic women of the Jilima Co-op, who produce our shea butter, we help ensure they receive fair prices and meaningful opportunities to support their families.
Right now, we are working hard to keep our products available and continue this important partnership.
Your support will help us with three urgent needs:
• Emergency restocking so we can purchase raw materials, fulfil orders, and rebuild cash flow
• Protecting our partnership with the Jilima Co-op and the livelihoods created through this work
• Keeping the business running by helping with essential costs during this challenging period
I have come too far to give up on this mission, but I cannot continue it alone. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps us move forward.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this page with others would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for believing in ethical trade and for helping us protect something that has been built over many years.
With heartfelt thanks,
Akua
