Please help Maddie as her daughter fights for her life

Nova Hess, age 1, was admitted to Children’s ICU on 11/20/24 after Madison Hess (mom) rushed Nova to Knox Community Hospital due to being in respiratory distress. Nova has been diagnosed with RSV and Rhinovirus, which claim the lives of hundreds of thousands of children every season. At this time, Nova is unable to sufficiently breathe on her own. Her body is very tired and weak. She has been fighting a dangerously high fever and was hooked up to a bypass machine while being mildly sedated in hopes of giving her body a break and bringing her oxygen levels up. Sadly, it doesn’t appear that Nova is improving with the bypass machine. The next step, unfortunately, will be putting Nova in a medically induced coma and intubating her. Every parent's biggest fear is coming true for Maddie as she watches her daughter fight for her life. Nova is a fighter though! She beat viral meningitis at just 12 days old, and we are optimistic that Nova will beat this too

Nova has a long road ahead of her. Maddie has a 3-year-old as well who will be staying with family so Maddie can tend to Nova. Unfortunately, these situations put huge financial strains on the parents affected. Maddie lives paycheck to paycheck with no help, trying to keep a roof over her children’s heads, food in their bellies, and a car to provide transportation to work. Unfortunately, Maddie will be off work and is unable to apply for any disability through her employer due to her being shy of her 1-year mark by just a few months. If you know Maddie, you would know that she has the biggest heart. She would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need, even if that meant it was her last shirt. It’s my goal to try and reduce the stress of her home life while she is an hour away supporting her daughter on (hopefully) a road to recovery.
