Hi, my name is Pre and I'm raising funds to help my friend Theo Nolan-Isles with his legal defence costs
In early 2024, Theo Nolan-Isles’ life was turned upside down.
After displaying a Palestinian flag at his home in Botany as an expression of solidarity with civilians affected by the war in Gaza, Theo discovered a suspicious device attached to his vehicle, accompanied by a handwritten threat demanding the flag be removed. NSW Police deployed the Bomb Squad, and later charged a man with offences including stalking and intimidation, sending an article to cause alarm, and using a carriage service to menace or harass. In the aftermath, Theo was subjected to a significant volume of online abuse, leaving him fearful for his ongoing safety and ultimately forcing him to relocate.
In the months that followed, Theo became increasingly vocal about issues of civil liberties, political accountability, and the boundaries of lawful protest and speech in Australia. Like many Australians, he has been troubled by recent changes to public order and hate-speech laws introduced at both state and federal levels, particularly following high-profile violent incidents. Theo has publicly questioned how these laws may affect political expression, protest, and dissent.
On 20 January 2026, Theo was arrested by NSW Police in relation to social media posts that authorities allege encouraged violence towards politicians. Theo maintains that his posts were satirical and political in nature and strongly disputes the characterisation put forward by the police.
At a court appearance on 26 January 2026, Theo was refused bail and remanded in custody. The court cited prior matters when determining bail and ruled that he posed an unacceptable risk if released.
Since being taken into custody, Theo has been moved repeatedly between different correctional centres due to overcrowding, making it extremely difficult for him to maintain consistent contact with legal representatives.
This situation has placed enormous strain on Theo’s ability to defend himself effectively.
Funds raised through this campaign will be used entirely to cover legal expenses, including specialist representation and court fees, ensuring Theo has access to a robust and fair defence.
Your support will help ensure Theo can navigate this legal process with proper representation and a fair chance to present his case.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and standing with Theo.
