Pierre is finally coming home! Help the Lavoie Family.

On April 21st Pierre suffered a cardiac arrest at home with their teenage son Elliott. After calling 911, Elliott performed lifesaving CPR to his dad. He was then transported to Lakeridge Health Ajax hospital where he spent about 4 weeks in a coma in ICU on life support. After that he had a successful heart surgery to put in a defibrillator. After 5 long months in hospital, Pierre was finally moved to Providence Health where he has been learning to talk, walk, and eat without medical support. Within the coming weeks, Pierre will be released from Providence to return home in his current high needs condition which includes him still being on a feeding tube and unable to move independently. As you can imagine their house needs to be retrofitted to accommodate Pierre's accessibility needs (ex. ramps, bars in the bathroom, possible stair lift etc.) and nursing and PSW support. As both are currently not working, receiving reduced income and benefits not covering the cost of outside expenses they do not have the means to cover the cost of this unexpected emergency. In addition to these medical and financial challenges, Candace is travelling to and from the hospital 2 to 3 times a day, attending meetings and taking care of Pierre. Meanwhile trying to care for their children Elliott (15) and Zoe (12) without her husband. Candace is known as a bubbly, kind person with an infectious laugh and a very big heart. She is known for doing anything for anyone at a drop of a hat. She is a primary teacher who always goes above and beyond for her family, friends, colleagues, and students. She is a passionate person who is a fierce advocate for healthy living and helping those in need. She organizes and participates in a variety of fundraising and charitable events. As friends of Candace, we are collecting funds to help the Lavoie family cope with some medical expenses that will arise when Pierre comes home. As you can see the Lavoie family are very kind, generous and brave and can really use some help. Please spread the word and share this campaign.
