Updated: Paxtons Leukemia Journey

Updated July 1, 2024: From Paxton’s Father

Hello, and thank you to all those who have aided our now eight-month journey for our now 7 year old warrior son Paxton Maddocks. These eight months have changed our families. Paxtons attitude and eagerness to beat this thing is the most incredibly inspiring thing I’ve ever seen. At 7 years old he understands everything. He knows the risks. He hates what he needs to do (needles, port access for meds) but knows it’s what he must do to beat this and come home.

Paxton (from Castlegar) will continue to receive treatment in Vancouver at the BC Children’s Hospital hopefully until approximately mid August. He is still in remission and is in post treatment which is so far going great. Post treatment is a lot itself. Essentially, it’s the medications they used (chemo, etc.) again, but this time at smaller amounts. He has lost his hair again, but knows he looks good regardless

Everything that’s needed, is based off his blood counts. Sometimes there are slight delays, which just adds time here in Vancouver. But mid August has been the goal for awhile, and we are on pace.
Unfortunately, there have been some major accommodation changes that couldn’t complicate travel and expense any more.

Please keep this little guy in your thoughts and all the happy healing wishes ! :) thank you !

There has been some changes to accommodations for Paxtons Dad, so now all the donations will be sent to him to help with travel and hotel expenses. Please keep this little guy in your thoughts and all the happy healing wishes ! :) thank you !

Hi everyone ! Paxton and his family are beginning a big battle to fight Leukemia. Hearing the words that Paxton has cancer has been so unbelievably hard to process.

Paxton is the sweetest 6 year old boy, who was unfortunately diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on October 5, 2023. He is currently in the BC Children's Hospital starting his long journey.

This is a little snippet of the facebook post from his Mom:

"30 minutes following all his initial blood work his family doctor laid out what was found. "She said, do you want to know?" And of course. She read me his blood results... and they were terrifying. His red blood cells were 38 (normal is 118-146) his platelets were 8 (normal is 180-440, he could have bled out at any moment.) And he had no immune system.
She told us we needed to get to the trail hospital for a blood transfusion. Quickly.
We should also expect that once he's more stable, we will be flown to Vancouver.

I asked her to level with me...because if someone was going to tell me my kid has cancer, I wanted it to be someone I value and trust. The answer was "We are trying to rule out cancer."

We were met there by the pediatrician. She did her fellowship in pediatric cancer and she was super helpful. I was so happy to have that there.

Paxton received a blood and platelet transfusion in the ER. We went to the peds floor overnight. In the morning, we were flown to vancouver.

Here, he has been through a plethora of tests. So much blood work. He's had a lumbar puncture and a bone marrow biopsy.

Last night it was confirmed.

Our boy has cancer. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. As far as cancer goes, we're lucky that this is the most treatable form because it's the most common type.

We are overwhelmed with support we thank everyone so much! We're still in a place right now where we can't believe this is happening to our family again. But we can't stay focused there too long.

Right now, we're looking forward. God is on our side and we're ready for this fight.

Tuesday morning, I was so worried that we have to move at the end of the month without a place to go. Now I don't really care....throw all of our stuff out if necessary.

Everything is in perspective again.

Just also adding, I couldn't be more grateful to the doctors and my coworkers where I work. We are so incredibly fortunate to have just the most amazing people, community, church family and all of the above to support us.

Anyways, pray for us. We need it and appreciate it. Thanks all!"
