Mission: Momma Lewie - WE have YOUR back!

Donazione protetta
She's the "unofficial mother" of many Marines that have served in 3/2.  She says they are "HER" Marines!  They gave her the nickname "Momma Lewie", Patty Lewis has selflessly dedicated the better part of the past two decades to supporting entire battalions of Marines, working directly with their commanders while deployed, connecting Veterans to needed services, and always being available to anyone who just needed someone to listen.  Whether it was sending stockings to 7,000 deployed Marines and Sailors, or setting up financial assistance for a Veteran experiencing personal issues, she loves helping others and making a difference. There are too many things she has done for service members to mention here.

Now the woman who has done so much for so many is in need of help herself, and it's time for us to have HER back!  Momma Lewie is battling a series of serious health challenges.  From two brain tumors, to spine issues, to an adrenal gland tumor, she is now suffering from adrenal insufficiency.  Any one of those would be enough, but these have been one on top of another all while her husband is recovering from gastroesophageal cancer.  The adrenal insufficiency is the most serious issue.  She needs to take medication every few hours just to stay alive.  With all of these issues, Momma Lewie had to shut down her non-profit organization, America 4R Veterans/America 4R Marines, which is breaking her heart, though still she would honestly never turn away anyone in need of assistance in any form despite her own serious health issues.

When she posts updates or about closing the non-profit, the comments always say "let me know if there's anything I can do..." WELL, THERE IS! Momma Lewie is facing a dire financial situation because of all the expenses related to her and her husband's medical treatments.  While we can't do anything to fix their health, we CAN help with the financial issues.

Who is "we"? Over 40 Marines from 3/2 have reunited with one mission: Momma Lewie.  She's too humble to ask for help or assistance for herself when she's used to helping others.  We have grown to know, respect, and love her, and will do anything we can to help her just as she helped us.  Her tireless devotion and selflessness is an inspiration, and we have taken on this mission to show her how many lives she has touched and how much she is appreciated and loved.

To put things into perspective financially, she sees about 8 doctors at least once a month each, has had several surgeries, has regular lab work and radiology tests, has physical therapy, and takes numerous prescription medications.  All of this adds up very quickly.  Before that it was spine surgery, and before that is was radiation for brain tumors.  So the financial situation has been snowballing and has quickly taken a huge toll.  She needs relief - FAST - because it is a huge stressor and with not producing any of her own cortisol (the stress hormone), stress is a huge factor in her quality of life.

We certainly understand times have been tough, and the last thing Momma Lewie would want is anyone donating when they can't.  However, whether you donate or not, please at least SHARE this campaign with your network so we can continue to spread the word and reach as many people as possible.

LtGen Stalder, who has worked a lot with Momma Lewie in the past on many projects, has been in close contact with Momma Lewie for many years is involved with this GoFundMe campaign and mission.  He wrote a note, which is shared below.  There are many, many others that could say great things about Momma Lewie and how she has impacted their life.  Our motto in 3/2 is Unus Supra - One Above - and that's what we're gonna do for Momma Lewie.  We're going to deliver a Christmas miracle!  Thank you for your time and consideration!

A Note from LtGen Stalder
Patty Lewis has been a guardian angel and lifeline for thousands of Service Members, their commanders, veterans, and families for more than a decade. She has had all of our backs, serving as a caregiver and provider. Patty has never asked for help, she’s only provided  assistance for others; never turning away from a Veteran or family whose situation was desperate. There is not Veteran or family member Patty would not help; 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Since the early 2000s Patty has been medically disabled and had to stop working in 2004 and she has now increasingly complex and very serious medical conditions. Co-payments and diagnostic testing are extremely expensive. Now, years later, as they attempt to deal with medical issues, Patty and her husband are faced with life changing challenges and in spite of it all, she continues to assist Service Members and families each day; never saying “no” to a call for help. Her selflessness and contributions are exemplars of sacrifice and service to others that have few comparisons.
