Care for Maggie

Over the past number of months, Maggie’s health has been in sharp decline. In previous years, Maggie has been able to take breaks in between intensive journalistic investigations to allow their body to return to a steady & functional state. Maggie lives with a chronic blood condition called essential thrombocytopenia. Recently this condition has begun to advance and trigger other health risks and concerns. Maggie has been in and out of hospital since October for testing and treatment and though many questions remain, their family history is undeniable and of present and urgent concern. Maggie is under strict instructions not to engage in any intense work until their blood levels return to normal. Meanwhile taking care of the children remains a priority - a prized and important role for them - and one that seems to take all their capacity and energy.

This financial support for Maggie will help relieve some debt from the past few months (bills, rent, prescriptions, and groceries) and create some stability moving forward; to rest in between tests and treatments, and allow them to focus on caring for the children during this time of precariousness.

Maggie prides themself on giving and sharing when they can and has been trained to not ask for help, from cultural and familial perspectives, even when it is needed most. So this enormous ask has not been made without deep consideration and trepidation.
