Our home was damaged in the storm and is uninhabit
Donation protected
Hi my name is Nicole, the wind and rain storm on Monday 12/18/23 damaged our home to the point where it is unsafe to live in. Our insurance company can’t inspect our house to determine how much damage it has and if it is repairable until January 1st. We were able to get a hotel last night but living out of a hotel is not easy for an extended period of time and we are struggling financially. This has created a hardship for me as a single mom right before Christmas. I was asked by a few people to create a gofundme so even though I do not like asking for anything from anyone I’m doing my best to accept the help people want to give. Unfortunately I make too much money as a social worker to qualify for any of the government programs but not enough money to make it through this. Thank you to anyone who chooses to donate we truly appreciate any and all help that is offered.
I met with the insurance adjuster today and they are saying my house is a total loss but it has to go through the approval process before I can do anything. For now we are still in the hotel while the insurance tries to find us an apartment to rent. Once they approve the total loss, I can start looking for another house. It will be a few weeks before they give me an approval. I still have to pay my rent and cmp and oil while my trailer is still on my lot and while I look for a new trailer but I will also have to pay a portion of the apartment that they rent for us. Thankfully I already started working with a realtor to see if I can just buy a house but it is a long process. While I wait for the insurance company to make a decision I have to pack up all of my stuff in my house and put it in a storage unit I get a new house. I also have to find an apartment in Farmingdale or Hallowell that is willing to do a short term lease by next week!
