Our Dad’s Cancer Expense Fund
Donation protected
We created this to share our Dad’s story and to explain why we, unfortunately, have no other option but to ask for your support.
In August of 2022, just two months after retiring from a career as a school band director and three months after receiving a clean bill of health from his previous cancer diagnosis, our Dad was diagnosed with late-stage bladder cancer. If you know our Dad personally, then you know how serious he takes his health. He never missed a workout and clean healthy eating was always his top priority. Needless to say, we never imagined in a million years such a healthy person could end up so sick.
After the initial diagnosis, it seemed like anything that could go wrong did go wrong. He has been back and forth between the hospital and a rehab facility since October where he is rarely able to leave his bed. In December of 2022, we got the devastating news that our Dad’s cancer was deemed incurable and that continuing chemotherapy treatments would be more detrimental to his health than beneficial. Although he continues to receive immunotherapy to hopefully extend his life, in the mix of all of this, we have been faced with the stress of the reality that his insurance coverage is due to lapse and will no longer provide coverage to remain in a medical facility. At this point, his quality of life depends on being able to remain in a medical facility, but the out-of-pocket costs associated with this care are immense.
So with nowhere else to turn, we’ve created this fundraiser. Our goal is to help keep our Dad in a medical facility where he can continue to receive the medical attention he so desperately needs while also hopefully alleviating his financial stresses created by this situation; something no one in his position should have to deal with. Even if you are not able to donate, we ask that you please share this. While it’s sometimes hard to outwardly reach out for help, please know that we appreciate the continuous support and generosity more than we could ever put into words.
