As many of you know, my son Nathan and his wife, Risy have been stationed half a world away for six long years due to Nathan’s service as a United States Marine. They have been looking forward to finally coming home, with Nathan expecting to reenlist and return stateside by the end of this year. Unfortunately, unexpected delays in his reenlistment have changed everything. Now, his wife faces a deadline to the U.S. to have her newly obtained visa stamped and to sign other important documents before Christmas. They had also planned to see family for the first time in seven years while they were here, but every possible obstacle seems to be getting in the way.

Because Nathan’s reenlistment won’t go through in time, their plans—and our family’s plans—have been turned upside down. From the effort and hope they put into her visa and dream of becoming a U.S. citizen, to the next steps in Nathan’s military career, to the last-minute cancellation of their move, everything has been thrown into uncertainty. Most importantly, they no longer have the funds they had set aside for this important trip home.
