Help university student Oday Saidam evacuate Gaza
Donation protected
Hi All,
we have started this fundraiser almost a year ago in the hope that we can get Oday out of Gaza so he can finish his bachelor in Egypt and help support his family from there. We both would've never imagined that the genocidal assault on Gaza will take this long with no possibility to leave.
Thank you so much for your help so far but I/we have to yet again reach out in desperation. The money that I've sent over to Oday and what I managed to support him and his family with has run out. When I tell that they are starving, it is literally the case: there is hardly available food entering the Gaza strip. Whatever enters is either directly bombed and burned by the occupying forces or is robbed by gangs. A bag of flour costs now over $100 and it's hard to find. Money literally melts away in these conditions. Oday and his family hasn't been eating more than once a day since several weeks and at this point they don't have anything to buy.
Please help to carry the burden and send whatever you can to this GoFundMe.
In Solidarity,
Zsofia
Meet Oday, a determined 21-year-old Palestinian student studying software engineering at Al-Azhar University. His journey has been one of resilience and determination, facing already 5 months war on Palestinian people. Oday's dreams of completing his education were shattered when his university was destroyed amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Forced to flee to Rafah, only to find it increasingly dangerous with the looming threat of an Israeli ground invasion, and carpet bombings.
Now, back in the heart of the Gaza Strip, Oday faces a new set of challenges. Scarce resources like food and water have become daily struggles. With two years left until graduation, Oday is at a critical juncture in his education. He had reached the halfway point of his studies, but everything changed on October 7th, when his dreams and ambitions were burned along with the destruction of the universities.
Despite the adversity, Oday refuses to give up on his education and the dream to provide for his family. He harbors a fervent desire to finish his studies abroad, where he can pursue his academic aspirations without the constant threat of violence and displacement. As a young man living in Gaza, Oday faces grave risks from the occupation forces. Your support could mean the difference between life and death for him.
How You Can Help:
We are launching this fundraiser to support Oday in his quest to finish his studies and escape the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Your contributions will go towards:
- Living expenses and essential resources in Gaza until he can safely relocate.
- Assistance with the logistics and expenses of studying abroad, including visa fees and travel costs.
- Tuition fees for Oday's remaining two years of study.
- Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant impact on Oday's future. Together, we can help him escape the genocide and pursue his dreams of becoming a software engineer.
Oday's story is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Palestinian people in the face of adversity. With your support, we can provide him with the opportunity to build a brighter future for himself and his community. Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family. Together, we can make a difference in Oday's life and empower him to overcome the challenges that lie ahead. Thank you for your generosity and compassion.
For your information I am based in Germany and I'm acting on behalf of Oday who is now in Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza.
Oday and I have met via Instagram and we have talked several times since. He is sending me updates about his situation daily when he has access to electricity and Internet, both difficult to get by.
Oday will receive the funds via Western Union or Paypal, and he can then decide how to utilise the amount best as the opportunities to leave are very restricted and the price that is cynically charged at the borders varying daily. First of all he'll need to get on the list of evacuees towards Egypt via the travel agencies operating on the ground, which can happen once he has the amount available, after that it takes normally 2 to 4 weeks to get evacuated.
