Norm & Phyllis: H Florence Disaster
Donation protected

Before Hurricane Florence hit, this was our home in Wilmington, NC. On the morning of September 16th this all changed. Norm & I (and our dog Pappy) were able to escape out the back door unhurt but our reality was smashed by the tree, wind and water.
This came behind another more unbearable tragedy. On July 8, 2018, our 38-year-old son James took his life. The impact of this is not something we can express. As we reel from his loss, it is particularly difficult to find our footing without the safety and familiarity of our home.
Due to the extensive damage to our home, we will likely be displaced for a minimum of 3-4 months. It is impossible to adequately convey the upheaval that has already occurred. So much is uncertain at this time, including housing. We have moved 3 times since the storm, as kind friends and strangers have taken us into their homes. We are looking for a more permanent situation.
We are amazingly lucky to have friends, both around us and away, who want to help during this time of grief and loss. Our roots are in Maine, Colorado, Florida, North Carolina and beyond, so please share with others.
We are incurring many financial challenges, some known, many yet to occur. These expenses include: lost wages, destroyed furniture, rugs, linens, and household items not covered by renter’s insurance. We are grateful for any amount you can give.
Additionally, the financial impacts of James’ death are expenses from which we have not yet recovered. These include cremation, flights, hotel & food, and car rental for our trip to El Paso, TX to take care of his affairs.
Your love and support at this time is something we will always be grateful for. Please help us if you can.
With much love,
Phyllis Robertson and Norm Boucher
