New pigeon enclosure
Donation protected
Hi,
I’m building a beautiful new enclosure for my ever growing number of birds in my care
This new enclosure will be housing unreleasable wood pigeons and collard doves, but also young pigeons who need wildling up.
Unfortunately due to the large numbers of non-releasable birds, they have very much outgrown their current enclosure.
My first enclosure ever built a few years ago is housing them, at the time I only had around 5, but over time I have collected many non-releasable birds who have either been shot, had badly damaged wings from cat & sparrow hawk attacks and also many birds from other people and rehabbers around the North West, due to lack of aviary spaces.
Wood pigeons require very specific needs, as ultimately they are a wild bird, so it is important to provide them with plenty of enrichment to mimic the outdoors as best as we can and so they can feel safe, secure and happy.
I have got lots of exciting plans for their new enclosure, from solar powered water fountains to real trees and shrubs, rockery’s so they can feel with nature.. and many other ideas up my sleeve!
But to do this, I need help as it going to be extremely costly. I have already spent £400 on wood, wire / mesh, paint, brackets, screws, I had to buy an electric saw due to the size and amount of wood that needs cutting, tarpaulin for the floor, lots of petrol from picking up paving slabs from all over the area that people have donated.
I still need to buy corrugated roofing and fixings, gutters, gravel / stones, a water butt, much more wood for the roof, some plants and shrubs and any other accessories needed.
After their bad luck in life from the shootings and attacks, these little beings deserve the best second chance at life and I can’t wait to make them a beautiful new sanctuary they can call home x
