Nathan's Treatment
Hey, Todd Pacey here, asking for your help with this GoFundMe to pay for cancer treatment for my brother-in-law Nathan Reid.
Nathan was just getting on with his life in New Zealand - happily married to my sister Claire and being a great dad to their three young boys - when he started having seizures a few weeks ago.
The doctors eventually figured out that he had a rare form of cancer: mucosal melanoma. It’s a skin cancer that’s hard to detect until very late, and unfortunately that’s what’s happened in Nathan’s case - the cancer has already spread to his brain.
He’s gone from being a perfectly healthy 45 year old dad to having a diagnosis of terminal brain cancer in just a few weeks. You can imagine what this means for Nathan, Claire and their boys.
If they were in the UK, the treatment that’s urgently needed to prolong Nathan’s life as long as possible would be available on the NHS. But in New Zealand the specific immunotherapy drugs he needs, plus targeted therapy for the BRAF gene, are not available on the public system. The family has been quoted more than NZ$100,000 (about £50,000 GBP) to start treatment.
Claire and Nathan are desperately trying to fund this treatment because with their three sons aged between 6 and 11, every extra day of Nathan’s life is precious.
I’m trying to do my bit by doing the South London Tough Mudder on 19 September to raise funds to help pay for treatment. I’m aiming to raise £10,000 by then, which will go straight to Nathan and Claire to pay for Nathan’s treatment.
