Nancy's Fight: Overcoming Cancer's Burden

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Cortney McNett. As most of you know my mom, Nancy McNett, was having serious medical issues with her female organs. Mom at one point had lost so much blood that her hemoglobin dropped to a level 2 - normal range is between 10-12 and the doctors could not believe she was still alive. Mom went 24 hours without a blood transfusion while in the hospital when this was obviously an emergent situation. Thankfully and prayerfully mom survived the first night in the hospital and ended up having to get 6 transfusions just to get her to a level that the hospital was comfortable discharging her at. As a family, we came to a consensus that mom needed to go ahead and have a hysterectomy as she had a fibroid on her uterus that was the size of a 20 week old baby in the womb that was the demon in all of this. The OBGYN had to do biopsies to make sure that everything was clear for surgery as far as cancer. Everything came back clear and we were on our way to the next step of what had already been a very long journey - surgery. We were all excited that mom was finally going to put this demon to rest. While in surgery, the doctor immediately noticed something unusal with the fibroid on her uterus. The doctor sent it off immediately to be tested. The doctor pulled me and my dad into the consultation room after surgery and indirectly told us the one thing we feared could be a possibility during all of this. After meeting with the oncologist, mom was heartbreakingly diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial cancer post-op. As any patient - the C word is a hard word to swallow for all involved - it's definitely not the news we expected. But the blessing in all of this is we get to keep her for just a little bit longer. The doctor was confident that he got all of it. Yay! As you know - preventative treatments are mandatory even when the cancer is invisible. For those of you who do not know anything about endometrial cancer is 1. its typically not a cancer that spreads and 2. because of the type of cancer it is - it is extremely friable which means that any movement can typically calls pieces of the cancer to break off and spread to other organs in her body (the cancer kinda contradicts itself, i know) but thankfully, that did not happen. The doctor said that all of her other organs looked great other then her appendix where the cancer started to replant itself in the fatty tissue which they decided to go ahead and take out. Unfortunately, because of surgery and treatments and the big C, my parents have been stacking and collecting medical bills, so I'm asking for a little help to try and relieve them of some of their financial burden. Please do not feel obligated to donate. Every little bit counts even so much as just sharing to bring awareness to other women who might be experiencing the same issues. Mom is one of the strongest women I know and goes above and beyond for everyone around her. Now it's time for us to give back. Let's raise awareness and help relieve some of the stress that not only my mom is going through, but what other women are experiencing as well. We truly love each and every one of you and appreciate all of your donations.

With love,
Cortney
