My kidney journey: living on dialysis

Donation protected
  • Hi, my name is Monica and I’m fundraising to aid in my awareness for donating a kidney from a living donor, it would include news ads in my local paper, billboard advertising and donation cards.I was diagnosed February 8, 2017 with end stage renal disease, which was due to my diabetes and high blood pressure. I was an emergency case, I was on dialysis two days after emergency. I was a total mess and absolutely terrified. As a single mother my biggest concern was how my daughter was going to handle this and that my life may be cut short because of my disease. Still today one of my biggest fear is not seeing her grow up. Not knowing would her father would step up if I passed away. My daughter is amazing and resilient, she never missed a beat. I love her so much and I want to continue to love her on earth as long as a can. February 2023 will be six years on dialysis and I’ve loss so much through this journey. My mother passed away to end stage renal disease, my brother passed away from end stage renal disease and my aunt Mary passed away from end stage renal disease. I feel that my time is not long here but I’m pushing every day for myself and my daughter to survive through this. I’m a very private person but I need help to get my story out there and just maybe someone will donate a kidney to me. I’m O positive and I’m listed at Norfolk general hospital in Norfolk, VA and VCU in Richmond, VA. I appreciate anything you may give and I hope you understand this will be a tremendous opportunity for me finding a living donor. Thank all that will donate and all that will read my story.
