Please Help my Father Scott Kopko; Stroke Survivor

As of August 29, 2023 my father has had more complications that caused his heart to stop for 6 seconds. The fact he was on blood thinners from the original stroke saved his life, but the newest hospital visit has now caused them to surgically implant a pacemaker in order to regulate blood flow and ensure his heart keeps working. Cobra medical insurance has also dropped us, leaving us without health insurance to cover his week long hospital stay including all procedures, tests, and the surgery itself. They say that when it rains it pours, and I am very hopeful the sky will clear soon. I'd like to also thank each and every one of our donors from the bottom of my heart, you all have kept this family afloat, and I can never thank you enough.

My name is Nicolas Powell and I’m reaching out today to start a fundraiser and try to get support for my dad, Scott Kopko, who had a massive stroke approximately 13 months ago. As a result of this tragedy, he has been left crippled on the dominant side of his body, with a dented skull from the craniectomy, and with 25% of his brain left as non-functioning tissue. My little brother and I have since taken hiatus from college to return home and support our parents in whatever way we can, both financially and otherwise as my dad now requires a lot of daily assistance with even the most basic of tasks.

However, even with the jobs we’ve since started working and with my mom's salary as a Special Needs teacher, the loss of our main breadwinner and the continued piling up of medical bills is leaving us farther and farther behind without any means of catching up. I know the last year has been financially tight for a lot of people, but I’m here today to ask from the bottom of my heart to please help me help my family. I don’t know what else to do, and please know I do not make this request lightly. I truly appreciate every single cent that can be spared more than you know. We are falling into a pit that I cannot see any way out of.

Scott has been my Step-Father since I was less than a year old, but he has never treated me as anything less than his own flesh and blood. My dad Scott is truly such an amazingly kind and generous man, and I truly hope this allows me to return even a bit of all the love and support he has given me in my life.
