Murph for Meals

I hope this note finds all of you staying safe, and sane, right how.  In crazy times like these, it is easy to get caught up in our own concerns.  There is a lot going on to be concerned with.  However, there are also many folks out there that need help.  So many people who rely on schools, or food banks, or Meals on Wheels to feed themselves and their kids.  And that got me thinking.

As someone whose job is directing live sports broadcasts, the current shut down of sports has also shut down my ability to work, and earn.  So now is a tough time for me to just write a check to help others.  But I still want to help.  So I am joining forces with my dear friend and fellow CrossFitter Sera Cuni, the owner of the Root Cellar (in Chapel Hill and Pittsboro) and here is our plan - we’re calling it Murph for Meals:

I will finish Murph every Monday from Mar 23 - May 25 (Memorial Day) for a total of 10 consecutive weeks.

There are a few ways you can help:

Donate per rep (608 = total  reps - 1 per movement and each 1/4 mi)
Donate per minutes it takes me each week (my Personal Best is 45:50).
Donate one time - cause you think it’s a great idea!

100% of the proceeds will go to feed people in Chatham and Orange County, NC.  The money we raise will be split between the Chatham Outreach Alliance (CORA) and Meals on Wheels Chapel Hill.  The Go Fund Me link is

For those of you who don’t know:

“Murph” is a CrossFit workout traditionally done on Memorial Day.  Tens of thousands of CrossFitter’s all over the world take part in completing this.  It is a "Hero WOD” in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.  See this link for more details - https://www.crossfit.com/workout/2005/08/18#/comments

Murph is:
Run 1 mile
100 Pull Ups
200 Push Ups
300 Air Squats
Run 1 mile
All while wearing a weight vest (as a “Masters athlete” my vest is 10 lbs)

Thanks for your support.
