Barbie grew up in the local area and was a 1985 graduate of John T. Hoggard High School. She attended Queens University from 1985-1986, UNC Pembroke from 1988-1990, and Methodist University from 1992-1996, where she graduated with honors in English. Barbie landed a great career with Verizon where she was employed for many years. Barbie has made and kept so many close friends throughout her life making a positive impact on those around her. Always eager to embrace new challenges, she continues to inspire others to be good and do good. Now, Barbie desperately needs our help! She went to the hospital on May 23, 2025 after finding that she had a wound that wasn’t healing and very painful. Doctors at Novant determined that she had contracted a Flesh eating bacteria, Necrotizing Fasciitis; it was very aggressive. Barbie has had to endure more than 5 surgeries and is in an incredible amount of pain and discomfort. She is lucky to be alive. In the past 5 years, Barbie has been through so much. She had a stroke that affected her right side, and she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and went through Chemotherapy. She has been faced with so many medical bills already! Prior to this most recent hospitalization, she was working in a local doctor’s office, but she is still in the hospital today and will be unable to work for a really long time. The doctors say that her recovery could take years!! This is why she needs help!! She is starting to heal and is on the road to get into a rehab center for physical therapy soon. She is going to be faced with an incredible and overwhelming amount of medical bills after over a month in the hospital and then a rehab facility after that.
