Moshi Medical and Palliative Outreach
Donation protected
Hello, we are Karo, Pascal, Ananya, Orla, Käthe and Annika, medical students and volunteers from Germany and Scotland. Recently, we completed an internship at KCMC, a Tanzanian hospital in Moshi near Mount Kilimanjaro. During our time there, we had the opportunity to accompany the dedicated Tanzanian nurse, Sister Anna, who runs the local medical and palliative outreach program (main picture: second from left).
Sister Anna has been running the program since 2016 with the help of external funding. This year in June, the program's funding has ended putting the program in danger of being terminated.
Every week, Sister Anna visits people in the rural communities who are either palliative or unable to attend the hospital due to financial or physical constraints. She finds her patients largely through a network of community volunteers who identify vulnerable individuals, some of which have never been to a hospital. Sister Anna does home visits twice a week, with the aim of visiting each patient once a month. Currently, as the last of her funding is finishing, she is unable to provide her patients with enough of the medications they require.
To continue to help those most in need, Sister Anna requires ongoing support and funding. Her main costs are for transportation and the medications. To cover these, she requires 380€ (£320) monthly.
Currently, we are in the process of setting up a long term financial support plan but due to the urgent need for medication, immediate help is required. That is why we have set up this GoFundMe.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated and any amount makes a huge difference to the lives of these people. For example in Moshi, a monthly supply of paracetamol (100 tablets) costs 0.86€ (£0.72). However, some people in Tanzania still cannot afford this without support.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Sister Anna's important work. If you are unable to donate, please share this story as it can make a huge difference. Asante!
