Ale's Fight Against Cancer

My name is Alexandra Mendoza. I’m 33 years old and I have breast cancer. I am the wife of my wonderful husband and the mother of my incredible brave 3 years old daughter. I am Venezuelan and have been living in Mexico City for 5 years. I had the perfect life, perfect family, perfect job and perfect Home … Until everything changed… I was diagnosed with an invasive ductal carcinoma grade 3 stage 2B on my right breast and axilla, and my life stopped.

I couldn’t believe that it was happening to me. I thought these things wouldn’t happen, because I was a good person, I always helped others, and could put others first just to make them feel great… But then I realized that that’s exactly why I got cancer… It was really hard to accept , but I did… It has been tough to cope with chemotherapy, but I do it everytime with a smile on my face. Now I have to come to terms with the fact that the doctor is going to remove both of my breasts away... My insurance only covers one of them, and doesn't  cover the reconstruction of any.

If everything wasn’t bad enough, my unconditional dad, that came to help me with my daughter, had a protuberance growing in his neck. At first we thought it was cancer too, but after a lot of tests, the doctors told us it was a salivary gland obstructed by a stone of 18mm and had to be extracted. So now he needs to be operated and doesn’t have insurance here in Mexico.

I have never asked for money before, or for help. I used to think I could do everything by myself… But after my cancer, I learned that is healthy to ask for help when you need it. So I am doing it. Thank you from my heart. Thank you on my behalf, my dad's and my family's.
