Miles for Milk – Helping Mothers Feed Their Babies in Calgary

When I was pregnant, I spent months planning to breastfeed my baby. I pictured the bond, the nourishment, and the natural ease of it all. But when the time came, I couldn’t.

The emotional toll of not being able to breastfeed was heavier than I ever imagined. And to make matters worse, formula – the only way I could feed my son – came with a steep financial strain. No mother should ever feel heartbreak and stress just to make sure her baby is fed.

That’s why I’m launching Miles for Milk this October: a community fundraiser where every kilometer run will raise money to provide formula for mothers right here in Calgary who need it most.

Why Formula?

In Canada, a single 900 g tin of powdered formula costs $35–45, and lasts only 5–7 days.

Ready-to-feed bottles cost $3–4 each, and while more expensive, they are often the only safe and practical option for moms in crisis.

A full month of formula can easily cost $250–400 per baby.

For families already facing hardship, this cost is overwhelming.

My Goal

I am personally committing to run 100 km in October for Miles for Milk.

Every stride I take represents the strength and resilience of Calgary mothers who are doing everything they can to feed their babies.

With your help, I hope to raise $5,000 – enough to provide months of formula support for local families.

Every $10 donated = about 1 day of formula for a baby.

Every $70 = about 1 week.

Every $300 = about 1 month.

Why It Matters to Me

I know firsthand the heartbreak of not being able to breastfeed, and the unexpected weight of turning to formula. I felt sadness, guilt, and financial pressure all at once. But I also felt relief when I realized formula meant my baby would thrive.

Now, I want to give that same peace of mind to other mothers in Calgary. No one should ever have to choose between paying the bills and feeding their baby.
