Mike ‘Puppy’ Betzag - Helping a local 52 Brother
By now a lot of you have heard about Mike’s unfortunate situation.
2 years ago Mike retired after a long career as a grip in local 52, IATSE.
Soon after, he and his wife Lucy moved to Texas to be near his beloved daughters
and grandchildren.
‘Puppy’ and I worked together on and off often over the years. We both joined theunion in the late 70’s.
I had the pleasure of working together with Mike for the last 7 years before he
retired. During that time We became good friends, and I learned what a truly
caring guy he is. He was always there to help anyone going through a tough time.
Sadly, Mike returned to New York recently to attend his cousin, Billy Miller’s
funeral. On April 11th, while still in New York, he suffered a major stroke. He has been hospitalized, and has been in a coma ever since.
Mike’s wife Lucy was able to secure a bed for him in a stroke rehabilitation
center in Texas.
As you can imagine, flying Mike home in his current condition is very risky, and
very expensive. the insurance only pays a portion. Once he enters rehab the
family is going to have many expenses that insurance will not cover. There is no
set timeline for his recovery.
Please consider a donation, in any amount you can. Please help a Brother, a friend,
a Husband, a Father, a Grandpa who was always there to help others.
‘Please send your prayers to Puppy and his family.
Sincerely,
Ed and Liz Lowry
