Erin is a highly intelligent, talented, sweet, and fun-loving person with a lot of family and friends. She's a music fanatic, loves to travel, explore, volunteer and learn about everything under the sun.
She hadn’t been feeling well for a couple of years and had visited multiple doctors searching for the elusive answer as to what was wrong. She joked about what seemed to be a bulge coming from her abdomen but thought she must have been mistaken.
On March 19th 2019, a CT scan confirmed she had two large abdominal masses. The results prompted doctors to tell her to head straight to the emergency room. We learned during surgery that Erin had stage IIIc ovarian cancer. Tumors 16cm and 17cm in size and over 6L of ascites were removed. Just three days after surgery she began months of aggressive chemotherapy treatments. She had no energy, had no appetite, countless side effects, and was put on multiple medications.
Sadly, a number of treatments were not covered by insurance. She was forced to fight to receive the chemo itself and exhausted her credit to get the care she needed.
Despite that, by September she was finally declared cancer-free. Cancer left her with a lot of rebuilding to do, both physically and financially, but we were all confident she would pull through. Unfortunately, ovarian cancer has an extremely high rate of reoccurrence.
For the last 6 months, she's been trying to heal at home. While sheltering in place for COVID-19, her oncologist told her a reoccurrence was occurring and that she will have to start treatment again. She may have to endure more surgery and radiation, but does not want to go through chemotherapy again. She would like to be treated with holistic medicine this time. However, insurance is already fighting basic tests and does not cover natural services, so she will be paying out of pocket.
This fundraiser has been established to not only help ease the burden on Erin with the debt from the last fight with cancer but with the continued fight ahead. This is also so that the family can focus all their efforts on Erin’s treatment and healing. If we can help alleviate some of the day to day financial pressures that have mounted during this time of critical care, we too will have done our part to support her in a time of sincere need.
