Helping Sara

Brothers,

 

This is Don Wlodarski, AKA Boomer, class of '72.

 

As usually happens, we all went our separate ways after graduation and allowed many years to pass as we all "grew up" in the real world and let many of our fondest friendships and memories get away from us. But several of Beta Lambda members dating back to the early days of the fraternity decided to "put the band back together". We meet for breakfast or lunch, and even have parties for brothers and their spouses as we remember how we helped make the NIU Skull house one of the top fraternities at Northern . It is at one of these parties that we met Sara Roberts, beloved wife of Bill Roberts, AKA Rube. It was only a couple of months later that we were informed that Sara had stage 4 colon cancer.

 

We met with Rube and asked him if there was anything we could do for him. Rube owned his own business, but like so many other businesses these past years, Covid took it from him. As a result, his insurance was also taken. And while he is making ends meet, he is only doing that from month to month. Soon, his savings will be exhausted. That's where we hope the brotherhood will come through for him.

 

I understand this is the holiday season and we are all bustling about, buying gifts and planning parties and dinners. All I ask that somewhere you find time to make a small donation to help Bill Roberts and Sara.
