HELP MELA WALK AGAIN

MELA’S STORY

Mela is a new mother who has endured the most frightening delivery of her son—complicated by a cesarean, open heart surgery, and leg amputation. I invite you all to take a moment to read her story, share and/or donate towards her much needed prosthetic.

On June 12, 2019, Mela Bajrambasic checked into labor and delivery to birth her long awaited baby. After feeling sudden chest pain accompanied with leg numbness, doctors were frantic.  Emergency room testing showed Mela had suffered an aortic dissection, a rare condition with over 45% mortality rate. Less than 25% of patients with this condition make it to the hospital in time for intervention. The rupturing aorta caused harmful material to rush towards her unborn baby so an emergency cesarean was performed.  Mela’s condition quickly deteriorated, and doctors needed to perform open heart surgery. While Mela was in surgery, the neonatal team fought for the life of her newborn son. In less than twenty-four hours, Mela had undergone an emergency cesarean, an extremely risky, heart surgery, and due to further complications, amputation of her right leg.

At this moment, Mela’s whole world as she knew it, as well as the look and safety of her future, forever changed. What was supposed to be the greatest moment in life for any mother had just become the most terrifying fight for survival. Learning minutes prior to entering the OR that her baby is alive, as well as her critical prognosis; Mela decided to fight for survival and meet her son, beating all of the odds.

Baby boy, Dani, was put into a medically induced coma and therapeutic hypothermia. After many weeks of simultaneous efforts from two great medical teams; both Mela and Dani are doing well.

Life, for the past 3 months, has been difficult for Mela.  She lives by herself, caring for her baby and is without the leg! Her recovery includes expensive physical and emotional care while adjusting to her new life as an amputee. The response of the community she lives in has been heartbreakingly amazing. Mela is a master pianist and has musically trained many kids; therefore she is loved and adored by many. She unselfishly volunteered in various venues through her music, helped organize a number of humanitarian concerts, and significantly helped to culturally and musically develop her city. The city of Sarajevo is doing all it can, to give back to Mela.

Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go and in order to put Mela back on her feet and back to her music. Lets ensure Dani has a mother who is able to take care of him in this crucial stage of his life. The cost of the prosthetic leg Mela is in need of is $65,000. I’m inviting you to please donate. No amount is small!

Mela Bajrambasic is a long term friend and also my sister in law , living in Sarajevo, Bosnia. My hope is this fundraiser will aid numerous Bosnian efforts to faster collect funds for her leg prosthetic. Being that GoFundMe is not supported in her country, I would be solely responsible for transferring collected donations to her, through the bank wire ( IBAN- BA393385802500525146). Mela is in direct daily contact with her brother and myself and will closely follow this fundraiser. You can also follow it on her Facebook page attached below and contact her anytime. If you have any questions on this campaign please email me directly.
