For my amazing, beautiful, strong friend Megan (Wilson) Bowman who fought hard an courageously - I am putting this fundraiser together to help her family!
Those of you who knew Megan had the pure joy of being loved and cared for no matter what the relationship was between you! Her infectious laughter, beautiful spirit and welcoming personality made it easy to be around her. Its easy to say that she touched so many people and was always there to lend a hand or ear in any capacity! She was so much to so many (a mother, sister, daughter, wife, cousin, aunt, granddaughter, niece, coworker, friend) and her passing on February 23rd has left a huge hole for all of us!
Many of you may not have known that Megan was diagnosed in August of 2022, with rabdomyosarcoma, tumor in right bicep. In true Megan fashion, she kept the details close to home, stayed positive with her news and rarely shared the exact names of her diagnosis just so we wouldn't google and start to worry!!!! She fought this battle with grace and determination like none other!!!
In September of 2022 she had her first surgery to remove the tumor and was anxious to get back to putting their new home together that they had just closed on so that all of the kids and family had a place to come to and be together! The family had hurricane damage to their new home later that month but her freshly bandaged arm didn't get in the way as she not only worked on her own repairs but helped so many others (including our family) clean out and help put back together!
By December 2022 the mass had returned in her right bicep with rapid growth and in January 2023 she had a second surgery to remove the tumor. From February to September '23 Megan endured countless treatments, procedures, hospital visits and stays including 13 radiation sessions, 6 months of rigorous weekly chemo sessions and 4 surgeries. By September 2023 she was "Cancer Free" and even rang the bell which was such a huge relief for everyone!
The relief was short lived when a scan showed that the cancer had returned and spread to her lung. Megan began fighting again in October but by November the cancer had spread to her colon, kidney and liver. She had emergency surgery and was in ICU over Thanksgiving but continued to fight and made it home for Christmas! By January 5th she was admitted back into Moffit where the Oncology team discover further spread and determined there were no more available curative options. On February 8 2024 she was admitted to Hope Hospice Home Care where her friends and family continued to surround her with tons of love and care.
As we celebrate Megan's life and come together to share memories, stories and support, I wanted to start this fund to help ease the financial burden that Jason, Megans parents and family have all taken on over the last year as well as to provide something for Megan's 3 children as they move forward and navigate without her. So many of you have already reached out and asked how you can help.....and in lieu of flowers please consider donating here.
Please keep the family in your prays and thank you in advance for your kindness, support, love and generosity!
With heartfelt gratitude,
Sarah Parrott, on behalf of the entire family
