Hi, my name is Joseph and I have been going to a village in Papua New Guinea (PNG) called Andamang since 2012. The Chini people live in just that village and one other, Akrukay. Originally I went there as an academic researcher but I have come to know the people there and their needs.
This funding effort is to enable me to purchase a range of much-needed supplies for Chini people, whose village lies deep within the jungle of northeast New Guinea and far from the road network. For them, getting even just basic items is a real challenge and requires major trips to the main town in their region (Madang). Medical help is far away and unreliable, and so my visits to the village are the only time when people have access to medicines (at least for those things I can help them with).
With the funds you generously donate for this cause, the following types of items will be purchased for villagers of Andamang, Akrukay and then another nearby village called Akwavrɨmnggɨ: (1) medicines to supply the community: Maladuo (malaria treatment), antibiotics (chloramphenicol, azythromycin, amoxicillin), aspirin, anti-bacterial eyedrops, antiseptic cream, Imodium, scabies cream, ringworm tablets, bandaids, de-worming medication; (2) building supplies: nails, tools, paint, working gloves; (3) food supplies: rice, tinned mackerel; salt; sugar; (4) miscellaneous needs: pens, flashlights, (portable) mattresses (especially for the sick and elderly), clothes (especially for kids), pots and pans, soap. Some of these things will be purchased in Australia right before the trip, which is planned for early 2026, with the rest bought on site in Papua New Guinea before I head off to the jungle.
Thank you for your consideration.
