Mary McLeod Bethune Book Scholarship

Donation protected
As Mary McLeod Bethune has put it, “The whole world opened to me when I learned to read.”  Inspired by this quote and McLeod’s advocacy as an educator, we want to follow the same tradition of investing in those who simply need encouragement to see the world for themselves. Too often, students are passionate about their studies, but find themselves staggered by the conditions of their financial circumstances. While the focus should be on the lessons of the book, much time is spent gaining access to it. The McLeod Scholarship will offer a book grant to a Community College/University/Trade School student. We want to reach higher education students who have the courage to open the world to themselves and offer support to their educational success as a community.

Our target audience will be Community College, University or Trade School students, particularly in the Los Angeles County Area. The Scholarship will be open to all levels of higher education, from Freshman to Senior Class.

We are asking for donations with the understanding that we are trying to support access for all students regardless of class status.

The student who will receive the Scholarship will be providing the following:

- Resident of Los Angeles County
- Enrolled in Higher Education / Trade Institution
- Education Plan
- Schedule of Quarter/Semester Courses
- List of required/desired text
