Marquis needs your help

Hi, my name is Brianna Fisher. My 24 year old brother in-law Marquis Fisher needs our help. On April 8, 2024, Marquis went to Englewood hospital due to a severe headache. After getting the bare minimum attention he was sent home with over

the counter ibuprofen and with nothing but vitals taken. A couple of days later, he was trying to ride out the headaches until they became unbearable and he began throwing up. His mom decided to take him to Holy Name hospital where they thankfully started to give him the attention he needed. After getting an EKG Marquis began having a seizure. Within 24 hours Marquis was taken to the ICU and had suffered multiple seizures. Shortly after we noticed Marquis was only saying a few simple words. After getting CAT scans and an EEG. We found out that there was swelling on his brain and only 50% of his brain was functioning. The doctor concluded that Marquis had suffered from a sinus infection and due to it going untreated the infection ate through his skull leading the infection into his brain. On April 18th, Marquis was sent into an emergency brain surgery due to a follow up CAT scan finding an alarming amount of purlent (puss) on his brain. There they removed a large part of the left side of his skull and drained a good amount of the infection out. We were told that he won’t have his metal plates put in his skull for up to 6-8 weeks, basically to make sure the infection is 100% gone. Also they put a tube in his head to keep draining the infection. A day later we received news that his right side of his body isn’t responding and he wasn’t able to breathe on his own when they tried to extubate him. So yet another CAT scan was done and even more puss was found but now towards the front of his face. On April 20th, Marquis went into another major surgery, now with an ENT surgeon, so the doctor could remove the rest of the infection by going in through his nose to get to the front of his brain with a scope and suction. We finally got good news by the surgeon believing she got all of the infection out. We hope now the antibiotics can do their job and the brain swelling will go away as well which we are all praying brings back brain and body function. A follow up test was done and they believe he suffered from a stroke as well.

Marquis unfortunately does not have health insurance and we know these hospital bills are going to be astronomical. We don’t know exactly what the future holds for Marquis but we do know he will need a helmet before he can get at least one more surgery to put the metal plates in his skull in replacement of the large piece they had removed. He will most likely need a lot of physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and who knows what else at this point.

Marquis is the most kind and loving person with the biggest heart. He is loved by so many friends and family who are all eager for him to heal the best he can. He has his whole life ahead of him and I’m hoping he won’t need to carry the weight of getting better along with the enormous amount of debt due to his medical bills.
