Changing the Lives of Children
Dear Family and Friends,
I am currently enrolled in
the Early Childhood Education/Human Development and Family Studies program
at the University of Rhode Island. I have always been passionate that all
children should be cared for in a nurturing environment and that their
education and well-being, starting at an early age, is crucial to their
development.
It has always been my dream
to go to South Africa and volunteer with young children hoping to make a
difference in their lives. Having been brought up in less fortunate family
situations or homes, such as losing their parents due to crime, alcohol,
drugs abuse and HIV/Aids, these children have never been fortunate
enough to acquire proper care and love that I have been lucky enough to receive
all my life. It would mean so much to me to give them the love and care
they deserve.
Through the program International
Volunteer HQ, I have been given the opportunity to go to Vrygrond Community in
Cape Town, South Africa for two weeks this upcoming June. I have chosen to work in the child care program which
consists of caring for children, providing education and designing activities
for the children and helping with general duties of the centre, such as
teaching, feeding, cooking, and caring for children and babies.
Where many volunteer
programs can be extremely costly, this program is affordable enough that I feel
comfortable asking for donations to help me fund the cost of the trip. I have
set a goal of $3,000 and with my continued work study and your help, I know I
will be able to fulfill my dream and take part in this rewarding experience
that will stay with me for a lifetime.
